Artist's Description

Eudora Welty and others added bottles to trees near their homes to ward off evil spirits. It is thought that at night they enter the bottles and cannot escape. This watercolor, with ink accents, follows the folklore to bring good spirits to all who receive it. Bottle trees are seen all over the country, from New Jersey shores to Seattle, WA. It is a universal tradition as they may be found in other countries. Bring good spirits to someone.
